Nasi Lemak is one of Malaysia’s most beloved dishes, known for its rich coconut-infused rice, spicy sambal, and a variety of delicious accompaniments. Traditionally, it includes anchovies and meat-based proteins, but today, we’re giving it a plant-based twist!

This Vegetarian Nasi Lemak is just as satisfying, packed with flavours, and made using wholesome organic ingredients from Country Farm Organics.

Switching to a vegetarian version of Nasi Lemak is a great way to enjoy this traditional dish while incorporating more plant-based goodness into your diet. Ingredients You’ll Need
  • 2 cups White rice

  • 3–4 tbsp Country Farm Organics Virgin Coconut Oil

  • 1 whole Cucumber

  • 1 small bunch Long beans

  • 2 pcs Firm tofu

  • 1 pack Tempeh

  • 2 whole Onions

  • 70g (2 packs) Red chilli paste (3 in 1)

  • 10 stalks Lemongrass

  • 4 pcs Eggs (optional for vegetarians who consume eggs)

  • To taste: Country Farm Organics Raw Cane Sugar

  • To taste: NQ French/Portuguese Sea Salt or Himalayan Rock Salt

  • To taste: Country Farm Organics Premium Soy Sauce

How to Make Vegetarian Nasi Lemak:

1. Cook the Rice
  • Wash the rice and add it to a rice cooker.

  • Add water, lemongrass, virgin coconut oil, and a pinch of salt.

  • Cook until done, then fluff the rice before serving.

2. Prepare the Eggs (Optional)
  • Boil eggs with a pinch of salt for 20–30 minutes.

  • Peel and set aside.

3. Prepare the Vegetables
  • Peel and slice the cucumber.

  • Cut the long beans into bite-sized pieces, boil for 5–10 minutes, and season with soy sauce. Set aside.

4. Cook the Tofu & Tempeh
  • Cut tofu and tempeh into bite-sized pieces.

  • Fry in virgin coconut oil until golden brown and crispy.

5. Make the Sambal
  • Sauté chopped onions and lemongrass in virgin coconut oil.

  • Add diluted red chilli paste and season with raw cane sugar.

  • Simmer until fragrant and thick.

6. Assemble & Serve
  • Plate the rice, add the sliced cucumbers, boiled eggs (if using), fried tofu, tempeh, and seasoned long beans.

  • Spoon the sambal over everything and enjoy your homemade Vegetarian Nasi Lemak!
